Getting ready for an inspection

During the home inspection process, the home inspector will be opening and operating almost everything in the home. Here is a few helpful suggestions.

Unlock any gates and service panels.

Make sure the utilities are turned on, such as: water, electrical and gas.

Clear all areas around the electrical panel boxes, water heater, furnace and air conditioning units.

Ensure that all light fixtures are working and burned out bulbs replaced.

Test and replace all smoke detectors batteries.

Change the filters to the heating and cooling equipment.

Make sure to secure or remove pets, for the inspectors safety.

If there is a outbuilding, key’s or door opener should be provided.

Clear out closets or storage that lead to the attic or crawlspace.

Be prepared to leave the house for 3-4 hours.
